Troubleshooting Intermittent Internet Connectivity Issues

When dealing with intermittent internet connectivity issues, please follow the following steps to identify and resolve the issue:

  1. Send a refresh signal (hit) to the modem and router:  This can be completed by logging into your customer portal and selecting internet troubleshooting, or by calling NextGen Communications and then selecting internet followed by connectivity issues in the IVR.
  2. Restart Your Modem and Router: Simply unplug your modem and router (or internet gateway if you have a combo device), wait a couple of minutes, and then plug them back in.
  3. Check Your Wires and Cables: Loose or damaged cables can cause a wide range of internet issues. Make sure all connections are secure and replace any faulty cables.
  4. Optimize Router Placement: If you’re using Wi-Fi, the placement of your router matters. Sometimes moving it just a few feet or adjusting the antenna angle can significantly improve your signal strength.
  5. Test a Different Website or device: If only one website or device is acting up, your connection might be fine.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, a new modem / router will be needed.  These may be purchased by customers or rented for a monthly fee from NextGen Communications.
